Ville Maisi's research focuses on experimental studies of single-electron devices such as nanowire quantum dots with real-time charge detection. The aim is on one hand to deepen the understanding the quantum physics that govern the operation of these systems and on the other hand to strive towards future applications for example in quantum computing and sensing. Specific research topics include:
- Spin and charge physics in at the level of single electrons.
- Nanothermodynamics and non-equilibrium phenomena.
- Majorana states in superconductor – semiconductor hybrids.
Ville came to Lund in 2017 from the Low Temperature Laboratory at Aalto University where he worked on Majorana fermions jointly with the Niels Bohr Institute of University of Copenhagen. Prior to that time, he was a postdoctoral fellow at ETH Zurich studying GaAs quantum dots. He made his PhD in the Low Temperature Laboratory on studying the quantization of electrical current in superconductor - normal metal structures.
