Niklas Sköld’s research focuses on developing quantum light sources for optical quantum information technology. Such light sources should generate single photons on demand and be coherent and bright. The field of application for quantum light sources ranges from quantum cryptography to optical quantum computation. In particular he is interested in light sources based on nanowire quantum dots. Specific research topics include:
- Correlation experiments with single-photon sources
- Electrically driven and controlled quantum dots
- Coherent control of spin states in quantum dots
Niklas also teaches the advanced-level course Optoelectronics and Optical Communication which is elective for students from the F, N and E programs.
Before joining the Division in 2014, Niklas worked for Toshiba Research in Cambridge, UK. The research topics included quantum dot molecules, quantum memories and single-photon sources.
