Kimberly's research group is involved in the fabrication and characterization of nanostructures, particularly III-V semiconductor nanowires, primarily by vapour-phase epitaxy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Her group is specifically interested in the fundamental processes involved in nanostructure fabrication, including nucleation effects and design of new materials. Specific research topics include:
- Controlled fabrication of heterostructures in mismatched materials.
- Design of ternary III-V materials.
- Control and engineering of crystal phases within nanowires.
- Fabrication of antimonide-based ternary and heterostructure nanowires.
Kimberly teaches the third-year course Analysis on the Nanoscale for Engineering Nanoscience and Chemical Engineering students, as well as advanced courses in Thermodynamics and Crystal Growth for students in Engineering Nanoscience, Engineering Physics and Chemical Engineering.
She is currently sharing her time between the Division of Solid State Physics and the Division of Polymer and Materials Chemistry.
